Custom Golf Club Maker Tips
& Techniques
There are a
lot of things that a custom golf club maker does that sets
his clubs apart from the average off the rack clubs. Custom
golf clubs are not only golf clubs that are fit to an individual; but,
they are also built properly and with a lot of care and craftsmanship.
Some of the techniques that a good club maker will employ are
the following:
- Component
Weight Matching
- Spine Alignment
- Frequency Matching
- MOI Matching
- Properly
swingweighting the clubs
-
Tip
Weighting before assemby
- Tip
Weighting already assembled clubs
- Butt
Weighting
- Loft
Adjustments
- Lie Adjustments
- Proper Grip Size
- Length Adjustments
This may seem like a simple list, but it is
not. These aspects of custom golf club building are very
interactive. By that I mean that when you adjust one aspect
of the club you are affecting another.
Fore example, if you lengthen or shorten your clubs by 1/2
inch you will also change the swingweight by about 3 points.
Also, the lie angle will now have to be adjusted either upright or to
be more flat.
A good clubmaker not only will fit you for the proper clubs,
he will also know how to take all of that fitting data and build you a
truly custom set of golf clubs that will fit you better than anyone
else.
