6- Installing Golf Club
Ferrules
Installing ferrules is not that difficult, but it can be the
distinguishing evidence that a club has been made by a
professional. Let me mention here, that a ferrule
has absolutely nothing to do with a golf clubs performance.
You don't even have to put one on your club, but you would end up with
a very odd looking club. Ferrules are purely cosmetic. A
professionally installed ferrule will blend seamlessly with the hosel
of the golf clubhead. We will cover how to blend the ferrule
properly in step 8. Ok, now that you have your epoxy
mixed thoroughly, apply some to the tip of your shaft. Now,
place the ferrule on the end of the shaft, small end first.
This may be quite a tight fit, and if so, use a small piece of pipe to
push it on.
Once
you have it on about half an inch or so, use the golf clubhead itself
to push it on the rest of the way. Using the head will
precisely place the ferrule where it needs to be. At
this point, you may want to use an epoxy wipe and wipe off any epoxy
that has been pushed down the shaft by the small end of the
ferrule. Don't worry about any epoxy between the ferrule and
the shaft tip, we are going to add more to that area anyway.
Time
to move on to step 7
