Golf Club Set Makeup
Your ideal golf club set makeup is one that consists of clubs that you
can hit. Just because 90 percent of the sets that are sold on
the market have a 2 and a 3 iron in them, doesn't mean that you should
have those clubs in your bag.Your set makeup should be one
that works for you and not against you. If you simply cannot
hit your 3 iron, then replace it with either a high lofted wood or a
hybrid. So the question is, "what clubs
should you have in YOUR bag?" The first thing you will need
to do is determine which clubs work for you and which ones
don't. To do this you will need to play a couple of rounds
keeping track of how each and every shot is hit and with which club it
is hit with. Using a scorecard like the one shown
below, play a couple of rounds of golf. This score card is
not so much to keep track of your score, but to keep track of which
clubs you use, how often you use them, and how well you hit them. This
will give you a good idea of which clubs you should maybe
replace. If you have problems hitting your long irons, then
maybe you should consider removing them and adding more fairway woods
or hybrids. For example, if you don't hit
your 3 iron well at all, which probably has about 20-21 degrees of
loft, you could replace it with either a 6 wood or a 19 degree
hybrid. You may find that you have more
difficulty around the greens and need to add a gap wedge or lob wedge
to your bag.

Another
way of helping determine your ideal golf club set, is to make a yardage
chart. List out all of your clubs and their corresponding
yardages. Generally speaking, there should be a variation of
8-10 yards between your irons. By listing out the actual
yardages that you hit, you will be able to see where you may have some
distance gaps. Your set makeup
may take a little trial and error, but you will be able to find the
right combination for your game.
