4- Golf Shaft
Tip Preparation
As with good golf clubhead preparation, you also need to prepare your
golf shaft tip in order to make sure that they both bond
well together. The last thing you want to happen on the golf
course is for the head to come flying off the shaft as you strike the
ball. I've seen it happen. It's not a pretty sight. Now
that we have trimmed the tip, we need to abrade the golf shaft
tip. At this point of the golf club build we need to insert the tip of the
shaft all of the way into the hosel. Use your magic marker to
mark how far up the shaft the hosel sits. This will show us
how far up the shaft to abrade. Take
a strip of sandpaper and wrap it around the shaft between your mark and
the tip of the shaft. Spin the sand paper around the shaft
until it is evenly scored all of the way around the shaft up to your
mark. If you are using a graphite shaft, you will
want to just barely sand the paint coating off, but do not go any
deeper. Another thing to note, if you are using a graphite
shaft that has been nickel tipped, do not take the nickel coating
off. Just take the paint off.
You
are now ready to move on to step 5.
